Read 1 Timothy 4:8

New International Version (NIV)

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

Trying to keep up with the latest clothing styles is sometimes frustrating. Seasons change, styles change, what labels are "cool" changes from year to year. (I hear the 90's are back..) One benefit of being a cadet is you don't have to worry about clothing styles on campus.

"The Uniform Of The Day Is...." and it hasn't changed much in 200 years.

Football uniforms and padding has changed. Safety gear has advanced in decades of sports. The soldiers of Caesar's Army had a uniform of armor. That's no longer in style.

Scripture describes a wardrobe that is not effected by style or time:

This wardrobe is essential because conflict is real. We are surrounded by conflict and evil. I'm aware of this struggle every day. I'm sure you know it yourself. More than just the honor code and regulations, we have to stand "above the common level of life" and do what is honorable, true, just and pure.

Our scripture reading today talks about training for godliness. As athletes, we know strength training is necessary. "physcial fitness has some value but godliness has value for all things."

We have to build up and be strong in the Lord. Put on the whole armor of God - the spiritual wardrobe hasn't changed!

The abs around our mid section gives ease of freedom and movement. So INTEGRITY and TRUTH gives freedom with ourselves, our classmates, our teammates and God.

When outfitted with the armor of God, with integrity and truth, you stand for principles. the key word is "stand." It is an essential responsibility of a soldier to stand his ground under attack; to stand when every instinct tells you to run away. Stand for Truth and Righteousness and you will never lose ground.

"There is many a man with a gallant air;

Goes galloping to the fray

But the valuable man is the man who is there

When the smoke has cleared away."

-Alma Rogers

What does standing for truth and righteousness look like in your everyday life?

Can you be both cool and righteous?

Wrap yourself in God's word.

Stand tall in righteousness.

Run to win.
